From the first professional visit to a tap of an NFC plate years later — this is how a Farpost building record gets created, grows over time, and becomes more valuable with every person who contributes to it.
The building record
Every building in the Farpost network has a permanent record — accessible at farpost.ca/b/[building ID]. It captures what the building is, what's been found inside it, and who has been there. The record is public. Anyone can view it. No account required.
How a record starts
A Farpost record begins with a visit — by a Farpost field scout, by a professional who works with the building, or by the owner themselves. If you received a Farpost tag in the mail or found one on your property, tapping it is the first step. You can start your building's record, claim ownership, and invite the professionals who already know your property to contribute what they've found.
Every item added to a record is tied to a date and a contributor. Nothing is inferred or estimated.
Professional contributions
The record grows every time a qualified professional visits. Inspectors add their findings. Contractors note what they repaired. Adjusters document what they observed. Every contribution is tied to the contributor's verified role and visit date, and goes through an integrity check before it appears — Farpost documents observations, not opinions.
The Farpost tag
After the initial documentation, a Farpost NFC tag goes on the building. Tap it from any smartphone and the record opens immediately — no app, no login required. The tag is a signal: this building is known, cared for, and connected to a network of professionals who can help when needed.
How it helps owners
When something unexpected happens — a water leak, a fire, a disputed claim — the record is already there. The pre-loss condition is documented. The professionals who know the building are connected. You're not starting from scratch. You're resolving.
How the record stays current
Every professional visit is an opportunity. As the building changes — new roof, upgraded electrical, renovation — the record changes with it. Farpost is a living document, not a one-time snapshot. The longer a building is in the network, the more valuable its record becomes.
Where Farpost is headed
What's live today — claim dispatch, the building record, the tag — is the foundation, not the finished platform. Here's what's next, in order.
More than claims. Right now the record grows fastest around claims and inspections. Next, the same record starts capturing routine maintenance and valuation events too — so a roof replacement, a furnace service, or a refinance appraisal adds to the building's history the same way a claim does, whether or not anything ever goes wrong.
Tools that pay off on day one. Not every part of Farpost depends on the network being big. We're building tools for individual professionals — calculators, job trackers, listing assets — that are useful the moment you start using them, with the building record as a byproduct, not a prerequisite.
Dispatch beyond claims. The same matching and reputation system that connects an adjuster to a contractor today extends to inspection requests and owner-initiated service requests — so the network does more than wait for something to go wrong.
A real regional network. The earlier a professional or owner joins, the more their history is reflected when this matters most — to an institutional partner deciding who to trust in this region, not just to the next person who taps the tag.
None of this is locked to a date. It's the order we're building in, and it's why joining now — while the network is small — means your work shapes what comes next, not just what exists today.
Whether you work with buildings professionally or own one, Farpost is built for you.
